Chris Vigilante got his start in coffee in the Hawaiian Islands where he learned coffee from farm to the cup. In 2012 he launched his coffee company (Vigilante Coffee) from a row house basement in Washington D.C. What started from the basement, farmers markets, pop ups, and delivering his coffee to local restaurants and coffee shops by skateboards has grown to become the best coffee roastery in the Mid Atlantic. Since 2012, the company has gone on to win Best of DC, Best Coffee Roaster in Maryland (by Food and Wine Magazine 2017), 5th place at the US National Coffee Roasting Championship (2017), and recognized by both local & National publications such as the Washington Post, Saveur Magazine, & the Associated Press. The company focuses on sourcing coffees directly from small farmers all over the world, roasting their beans to highlight the intrinsic terroir of each bean and ensuring the $ goes to the right people and that their business operates with much transparency. Paying farmers a premium to encourage growing specialty coffee and giving them the opportunity to reinvest in their own communities and businesses. Locally, Vigilante Coffee company works to reduce our imprint through various initiatives such as a training program aimed at underprivileged youth in Prince Georges County, quarterly clean up's along the Anacostia water trail, and supporting local organizations and nonprofits through donations and event contributions. Currently the company operates 2 retail locations (Hyattsville & College Park), 1 espresso cart (at the Wharf inside Anthem Music Venue), and participates in the Eastern Market farmers (Washington D.C.) market every Sunday. Outside of work, Chris is an aspiring writer, avid surfer, and world traveler.
